Duel of the Summoners is a network multiplayer game in which two summoners compete against each other. The aim is to destroy the opponent’s soul stone and protect your own at the same time. The battle is fought indirectly via summoned creatures, which are controlled by commands.

Story

We live in a world where magic is more than a myth. Magic is omnipresent, it flows through all life, but only a few achieve the high spiritual abilities necessary to become a summoner. These powerful mages are able to summon beings from other worlds. Through this ability, they are always aware of one simple fact. We are not alone! There are countless worlds like ours, some of which differ from our world in only a few aspects.

Some of the most powerful summoners have managed to leave this world, but not with their bodies, because only the spirit alone is flexible enough to wander through the gaps in the dimensions, they dive into the worlds between the worlds. No life like ours exists there, no outside world, no civilization, only dark caves called dungeons. If you can believe the stories. In these worlds, the magicians play a dangerous game in which they try to bring each other to their knees with their incantations and deny the others access to these worlds. They have only one goal, the title of “Dungeon Master”, through the “Duel of the Summoners”.

Gameplay

The game is a strategy game. The difference to most other strategy games is that the player does not play in isometric perspective but in first person view. This ensures that the player is deprived of an overview. A realistic presentation was chosen as the design for the game. One of the aims was to ensure the highest possible level of immersion, which was also one of the reasons for creating a realistic environment. To further increase immersion, the Oculus Rift was integrated into the game as a possible display device. To achieve this, the in-game menu was designed in a 3-dimensional book and no overlaying HUD was used. This made it possible to integrate the entire display into the game.

Concept

Duel of the Summoners is a network multiplayer game in which two summoners compete against each other. The aim is to destroy the opponent’s soul stone and protect your own at the same time. These “soul stones” are the anchor for manifestation in the world. If the stone is destroyed, the connection to this special world is lost, thus deciding which player wins and which loses. Battles are fought with the help of creatures that can be summoned, these creatures can be controlled with commands. The player himself is not able to interact with the world, the only exceptions being the “calling of the creatures” and the possibility to heal himself near the “soul stone”. To make the game less predictable, each dungeon is randomly generated and unknown at the start. To uncover the dungeon, the player can summon a special creature, this creature is the Scout. This creature has the special ability of mapping, which enables it to mark every field it enters on the minimap. This can be viewed in the in-game menu. In addition to the Scout, there are two other creatures, the Attacker and the Defender, which, according to their names, are particularly suitable for attack or defense.
